Your Report Card

Daddy met with Ms Jansen today for parent teacher conferences.  She said you were doing really great.
You do a great job with your cutting and drawing.  We need to work on your coloring a little bit- she says sometimes you are so busy looking around at what everybody else is doing that you forget to do your own and take a long time.  Also, you tend to color with only one color at a time.
For some reason, you could not recognize the letter "G", so we need to work on that too.
Overall though, you are doing great.

We just went out for our date and brought you along with us.  You refused to try much of anything, and missed out on a Napoleon, Coppa Stacciatella, and Cannoli. (For Shame!!)

Another behavior of note is some lying behavior.  This is the second time and this time I saw it with my own eyes.    You definately got the concept, especially when you lost your tv time for the night.  That punishment always seems to be effective.

Sorry this is sideways, still having computer problems.

Dentist

Dear Ruby,

Today you and Charlotte went to your first ever DENTIST appointment!  You were pretty fearful and had a rough time, didn't like the noise of the suction catheter and had a terrible gag reflex when they tried to do x-rays of your mouth.  They want us to see a sedation dentistry specialist.. me and daddy still need to talk it over some more and decide what we're going to do.

So all in all, it was a good visit.  You do have a cavity that we are eventually going to have to get filled, but based on your reaction today, I'm gonna have to think about the best way to handle that. :)

Love you,  Momma

Folk Festival

We just had the most amazing day at the Folk Festival, seeing a puppet show, listening to music, doing arts and crafts and  above al, DANCING!!

You had the most fun.  I thought that would mean you'd take a great nap so I could catch up on your letters, but alas!  Here you are, singing silly songs and playing with a paint box, next to my leg.

guess Mommy's playtime is over ;)

Children's Museum : Mirror Magic

You girls loved the mirror exhibit at the Children's Museum today.  It's hard to believe there's only 2 kids in there!

I love how this one almost makes a circle.

 Making faces

Oh my.. here's a nasty moment. You're in time out. it's hard to share ALL the time, after all.

Ah, here we are.  Back to your normal little self.  You are being the teacher, Mrs Jansen.

"Now class, we are going to learn our letter song"
You and Charlotte were intermittently Lion King cubs the whole day, here you were walking to your Lion King home, in "Pride Rock"

SuperGirl!!!!

Hey, even Supergirl needs a snack recharge.

Penpal

You have your first pen pal.  Her name is Soleil, and she was born the same month as you.

BOO!

This is a Halloween cat we made together.  I was amazed how much you can do yourself!  You did an awesome job cutting out stars and taping the shapes on.

The funny thing about this picture is that I was trying to get a picture of your sister, who HATES the camera, and just as I was about to snap it, you jumped in, saying "Cheese!" because you LOVE the camera.  HA!  You were a good listener though and stepped aside so I could try again.

Shots!! Ouch

Yesterday we did your four year old checkup. You are 41 inches tall and you weigh 37 pounds.
The shots were terrible. You were very brave for the first two but finally broke down when she did your other arm. Luckily you dont need any more until you turn 11!

For being such a brave girl, i surprised you with the movie thr lipn king which you loved.

Surprise Reader

Dear Ruby,

We just got back from picking you from preschool, and today, I was the surprise reader for your class.  Your face lit up when you saw me and you sat at close to me as you could, before Mrs Jansen gently reminded you that you would not be able to see the pictures from where you were.

We read "Alligater Alphabet", for your letter of the week, which is "A".  We read "Mr Mole's Music" for last week's letter, which was "M", and then an old favorite "How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?".

I got the best response from the last one but you were all very good at listening, for the most part.

I spent about an HOUR at the library picking out the books.  Who knew it would take me so long to pick books?  I just wanted them to be great books, and they were.

Peer Pressure and an Awkward Barbie Moment

"Mom, don't write me notes and put them on my lunchbox because the other kids don't have that", you said to me, your hand at your side and your big blue eyes looking up at me.

The note said "I love you, love Momma".  I smiled when I taped it to your lunchbox that morning and the last thought on my mind was that you'd be worried about trying to be like the other kids.

I talked to you about how it's not always good to be like everybody else.  Peer pressure.. at 4?!

And then last night, we were playing Barbies and Ken was naked, it's hard to find a Barbie in this house with all of its clothes on.  Taking clothes OFF is an easy fine motor skill.  Putting them on is quite difficult, even for adults sometimes.  Hence, naked Barbies abound.  You looked at me craftily and said "Barbie doesn't need clothes on either" and started to take off her clothes.  But this raised my heebie jeebies flag.  "No no.. " I said.  "Let's leave Barbies clothes on.  Girls don't take off their clothes in front of boys".  I put a pair of a bigger dolls pants on Ken and you were content.  We played a rousing game of Princess Dice and you rolled the dice for Barbie, acting like she was really rolling.  Ken won the game.
