Christmas Pictures

Just when I thought you couldn't get any cuter..

"Sow-er"

Daddy is getting you ready for kindergarden. You know most of your colors, but are especially fond of Purple. You also know pink really well. Sometimes you guess yellow, red, green and blue, but still have some trouble.

You know your name is Ruby, but when you say it, it sounds like "Baby", so it's hard to know when you are talking about yourself or your sister. When we ask how old you are, you say "Two". And when we ask who your Momma is, you say "Sow-er". That's right, Jackie Sawyer. When we ask you where you live, you say "Chester".

Your favorite thing to do is to fill up and carry around your "purse". Your favorite purse is of course purple, with the name "Chester" on it. You usually fill it up with books, small toys, and lately, (curiously) bars of soap. This is a new fascination for you. I think you like the bars of soap because it smells good (and because you know you're not supposed to have it!). You are still very much into the disney princesses (which we are trying to demote at the moment as we are princessed out!) and Dora.

You are still in a challenging phase, often refusing to do something, giving us a stare down, or even saying "Yes" when we ask if you'd rather go to time out. You are getting better with Charlotte, understanding that she needs her space sometimes. We do have trouble sometimes with you wanting to just be near her, which is so sweet, but also too dangerous right now when you are pulling down toys and dancing wildly.

Most of the time, no matter what you do, you do something else that is so sweet or so cute it just make me smile and shake my head. My favorite thing you do when I'm mad is that you'll shrug your shoulders and hold up a book and ask sweetly "Weed?" How could I turn down your sweet request to read you a story?

Thanksgiving

Dear Ruby,

Every day you give me so much to be thankful for. I have a vibrant, beautiful, charming and surprising 2 year old wonder named Ruby Marie.

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year at three places- Your great Uncle Mike's, Your Aunt Michelle's family, and with your great Aunt Dee. At Uncle Mike's, you played in the playroom with your cousin Anna, daughter of my cousin Stacy Wirt Lowery. You had so much fun and were delighted that they had a doll stroller just like yours.

After that, you were reunited with the other half of the Sawyer Foursome, Ellie and Maddie. Maddie mostly kept to herself and "shopped" with her shopping cart around the tables, but you and Ellie and I played lots of games, like hide and seek. You repeatedly hid with Ellie in the same exact bush and I had to keep pretending I couldn't see you. It was so funny!!! Aunt Michelle came out and saw us and just shook her head and laughed.

After that, you and Ellie snuck Gingerbread boy cookies and then went outside where you both had a good time playing "jump over the sidewalk cracks" and "follow the leader", despite a few tumbles on the sidewalk.

Lastly, we went to your great Aunt Dee's house where her new friend had his son and wife over and a little boy just about your age. You had fun with him and played a few games, but you were definately tired by this point and had a hard time sharing your toys without fussing. It's not always easy being two.

Happy Thanksgiving to the one who first changed my life and showed me the true meaning of magic. I love you so!

"Time Out"

Dear Ruby,

We made gingerbread cookies for Daddy's party at O'Toole's tonight.

As we were decorating, we were talking about the different gingerbread people and I said "Who is this cookie?" And you'd say "Grandma" so we'd put hair on it... or "Ellie" and we'd put a big smile on it. A couple of gingerbread people's arms fell off, resulting in the cookie having a (gasp) boo-boo!

The funniest is when we put a frown on one cookie, and when I asked who it was, you said he was in "Time-Out". You said "NO NO!! Bad!". Then, you said it was "silly". It's fun that you're starting to be able to make believe with me and know that the cookie isn't really being bad, that we're just being "silly".

So cute!

Love, Momma

Eggleston Vacation

We spent our anniversary in Blacksburg and had a great time! We ate at a restaurant called "The Palisades" and ended up chatting the people sitting across from us. They live at the farm above the cabin we were staying at, and let us come up and see their animals and fish in their pond! What a treat!..or even... (a trick or treat?!)
