18 month Checkup

Dear Baby Duck,
Today we went to your 18 month well baby appointment with Dr Shayne.
You are right on track and Dr Shayne says it looks like you are taking after your dad.. which surprised me, but is nice to know.

So here are your stats:

Height: 33 inches

Weight: 24 lbs, 13 oz.

You are in the 50-75% percentile for height for age,

and you are 50% on the nose for Weight.

You got your MMR vaccine today and the nurse was very no-nonsense about it. You didn't like it, but it was over quickly and we were out the door!

After your morning nap, you were very cute as you played with your crayons.

Wrigley

Dear Ruby,

Last weekend we went to Todd and Claire Alvis' house. They have a new puppy named Wrigley that you loved. He is actually a little bigger than you and sometimes he got a little carried away licking your face and you got overwhelmed, but we just reminded you that he is a baby too, just like you, and that you needed to be gentle.
You seemed to understand the concept of "gentle".

Love, Mom

Baby Duck Grows Up

I call you Baby Duck. Of course, I have so many names for you, but that one is still my favorite, and it *usually* makes you smile.

So.. what first? Ok Potty-training. Can you believe you have already gone pee and poop on your potty? I know that when you are 17.. or in Daddy's world 27.. and your boyfriend reads this online, it will mortify you, but I am so proud of you I just don't care. Besides, I bet you won't read that HE went poo-poo on the potty at 18 months. No sir!

Next.. "Mine", "No", and "You BAD!". Willfullness. Need I say more?

And now.. this week you and daddy are sick with the flu. Today your fever shot way up to 102, then I gave you a cool bath like the doctor said along with some Motrin and you've been cruising along just fine ever since. I might even be able to go back to work tomorrow.

Elmo. You love Elmo. As Daddy puts it, you sometimes still call him "Mommy", but you definately know who Elmo is and what he's called. I'm wondering how much more Elmo I can take before I crack. :) Seriously it's very cute, and we have already learned from Elmo the sign language for elephant, lion, penguin, bird, and bear, and how to play the bongo drums and the baby piano.

Food Choices. You are certainly slimming down from my chunky little cherub into a moving and grooving toddler. You don't eat just anythign anymore. Many things I will make just for you, and while you seem interested in me preparing it for you, as soon as I put it in front of you, you look at it and simply say "NO.", with a disdainful look and a pout and push it away. You seemed to like my meatloaf and you still love spaghetti and pasta with tomato sauce the very best. You like mandarin orange slices, apples, cheese slices, and animal crackers (which I only give to you for special treats). You love corn on the cob, peas, and blueberries. You like Cheerios, chicken nuggets, and corn dogs too, which works when the healthier choices fail..

Potager Garden

We are very excited. We are planning to grow most of our own vegetables this year in what is called a "potager", or French Kitchen Garden. It's basically just a very carefully spaced and planned mini greenhouse system that changes with each season. Each crop is planted into squares instead of rows.

Walking Your Dog

We love taking walks in the afternoon, when the sun warms things up a bit. This is you walking YOUR dog, which you like to bring when I'm walking Spiegel.

Orange Bowl

We take Hokie Football very seriously in our house. Here is an example of one of our Pre-game rituals. We are getting ready for the Orange Bowl tonight.
